Does your reel represent the authentic you?
I know that when I ask actors if they're proud of their reel, 95% of the time the answer I hear is not really. Or that they are waiting on more footage... or they know their reel needs work but they don't have the time... or they don't have a reel yet at all.
It really seems to put people into an uncomfortable Catch 22:
"I can't improve my reel yet, Jo, because I haven't booked work to pay for it, and because I have no work, I don't have footage to put in my reel, but I need a reel to book the work!"
It's kind of an endless loop, right? If you don't have a reel, people can't see the type of work you do, and if they can't see how good you are, they can't hire you.
So many actors wait to work on their reel... until money comes in, or more footage, or better roles. But I really want to challenge this because I don't think you have to wait for any of these.
