Are You Stingy Or Generous When You Act?

A generous actor is the one who is really open, available, vulnerable, committed and present. When you’re showing up generously, your heart and energy are all there, you’re putting yourself at the service of your character and story and you’re really listening to the other characters too.

If you're a giver as an artist or as an actor, your heart is into the giving, whether they like you and book you or not. It doesn't affect you because you come into an audition or on set with the highest gift you have to give, which is your truth, your authenticity, your instinct, your freedom, and your open heart.

However, you may feel that sometimes, when you’re acting or auditioning, you’re trying to control the outcome of your performance, look good and please casting directors in order to book; that your energy is more into being validated and booking the job than into just being there for your character. When you do that, you’re there to take. Therefore, you’re being stingy. When the most honest relationship you can have with your art is that you're there to give.

When you watch my training below you'll discover that the reason why you’re sometimes stingy is because you’ve been programmed and asked to feel, think and behave as they wanted to since you were little. You’ve been conditioned out of yourself. You have not been modeled to give yourself, but to please others. Therefore, you don't know how to show up in a generous way.

Then, when you show up at an audition, you hope to be seen, loved, recognized and booked so that you can feel good about yourself and full. And casting directors can feel when actors are being really generous or stingy and that’s actually one of the barometers they’ll use.

The way to show up for your characters in a completely generous way and give your truth and freedom without being influenced by the fact that people will like it or not is to work through that programming and undo your conditioning. Then you’ll be able to be your pure, free and instinctive self, as you were before conditioning happened. Then, you’ll be able to be generous because you have a whole self to give.
