Can too much training prevent you from working as an actor?

You may have caught yourself in a loop where you’re training and training and yet feel it’s never enough. You may also think that you need to train for so many years before you consider yourself a professional actor. And you may even feel pleasure from being in acting classes since you get to work on some scenes, connect with new people, know new authors, get in that acting energy; you get seen; and, in general terms, you give the impression that you’re acting.

However, by going from acting class to acting class, you may have found a safe way to satisfy your acting needs. But then there is another part of you that is really frustrated because at the end of the day you’re not booking and acting professionally. The teacher and the rest of students may like your work and you may get some sort of validation that feels good. And yet, this is not giving you what you actually want, which is to be working as an actor.

Therefore, when you watch my training below you will discover that continuing to go to acting classes may prevent you from getting out there and doing what needs to be done to find real work. Being in an acting class may feel so nice that you might never have the courage, energy and risk that it takes to be seen by professional people where your acting career is really happening.

And at the same time, if your instrument is not 100% free, open and alive, there is no point for you to do all the business side of acting (getting an agent, renewing your headshots and reel, going for auditions, etc.). If you are not connected to your truth and freedom, people from the industry will not be able to connect with you either since you will not be there. Therefore, the work to do is to work on your instrument so you can get completely free, present and alive. Then, casting directors and directors will be able to see you and offer you jobs.

Also, the invitation is for you to take a look at your training patterns so you can see if they are just a way to play safe, get validation from outside and get a fake acting life going on, which actually prevents you from going for the real thing: your acting career.

Watch the training below to hear all my thoughts on this topic.
