How To Prepare For An Audition?

When you have an audition, you may think you have not much time to learn your lines, understand your character or you may even think about what technique you should use to prepare for it. And if you’re taping at home, you may also think about the backdrop, the light, the mic, the take that you’re going to submit or the reader that is going to help you. So it can be really challenging and stressful.

You may also feel that when you’re acting by yourself, you feel free, natural and unique. However, as soon as you’re auditioning, you get stuck. You may have caught yourself faking, pretending and pushing the emotions. That can’t impact the audience or casting directors.

And you know that in order to book, first you need to audition. So it’s totally understandable that you feel a lot of pressure.

However, When you watch my training you'll discover that the real issue here is that you are seeing it and working on it as an audition. But that is not your job description. They are just a name that we’ve put on a process. Your job as an actor is to bring your life to your character so you can BE that character in that moment, to defend their needs and to try to get what they want.

The second you try to book an audition, remember your lines, look confident and impress the casting director, you’re tuned into your ego and into trying to sell something. That has nothing to do with your art and it’s not fulfilling for you.

You need to make your characters and their needs more important than you. And in order to do that, you need to have taken care of your ego beforehand. However, you can't do that at the moment since you’ve been programmed and conditioned to look good, be the best, give “good results” and do things “right” since you were a child so you could get external validation and love.

So first you need to undo your conditioning, which is in your body and nervous system, so you can get back to your free, instinctive and truthful self. Once you do this work, you’ll be able to access your extraordinary and unique self and BE your character without the need to prepare for an audition.

Watch my training to hear all my thoughts on this topic.
