When you’re rehearsing or preparing a scene, you may often find yourself truly immersed, feeling every moment fresh and exhilarating. This state, often referred to as being "in the zone" or "in flow," is the essence of why many actors pursue acting. It’s a blissful, free, and joyful sensation where you are fully alive, present, and discovering each moment as the character.
However, this feeling can easily be lost under pressure. When you rape for a significant role or perform on set, the focus may shift to doing the scene "right," looking good, or meeting others’ expectations. This struggle for control can lead you to a state of fabrication and hard work, where you’re no longer present and acting feels unfulfilling and forced.
As a consequence of this, you may take more acting classes, read more books, meet more acting gurus, train harder to get “better”. And yet, you may still find yourself struggling to access that state of flow, even if you work regularly in the industry.
When you watch my training below you will discover that the root issue lies in your conditioning. When you are born, you are pure and instinctive, always in the moment. However, as you grow, you are taught to suppress your natural emotions and instincts to conform to others’ expectations. This suppression results in coping mechanisms and masks that hide your true self.
To truly be in the moment, it’s essential to address these blocked energies. This involves undoing your conditioning and reconnecting with your true self and emotions. By reclaiming your authentic self and processing past traumas, you can show up fully present and effortlessly in the zone, just like when you were a child.
In conclusion, being in the moment is not about mastering more acting techniques but rather about undoing your conditioning and muscling up your instinct. It’s about freeing yourself from the coping mechanisms and masks that hide your true self and reclaiming your natural ability to feel and express freely.
