As an actor, financial instability can be a struggle for you. Perhaps you’ve experienced the joy of landing a role and the subsequent anxiety when the show ends and the paychecks stop. The irregularity of income can make it daunting to plan your finances, let alone invest in your career. Some of you might feel like you’re stuck in an endless cycle of not booking any roles and relying on side jobs that barely cover your expenses.
Whether you’re facing an empty bank account, irregular income, or a sudden loss of financial stability, the fear of investing in your career is real. It feels risky to put money into acting classes, headshots, your reel, or other resources related to your acting career when you’re unsure about your next paycheck. The fear of financial insecurity can leave you unable to make the necessary investments in yourself.
However, when you watch my training below you will discover that the lack of money is not the root issue. Financial struggles are symptoms of a deeper problem related to your "instrument" – your emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental self. If your instrument isn't fully free, instinctive, open and alive; you can't perform at your best in auditions or agent meetings. Your unique and true self needs to be fully expressed for you to stand out.
Think of your true self as a distinct color, say green. If life's challenges have masked your green with brown, casting directors and agents won’t see the real you. They can’t connect with your true potential. Thus, the core issue is about undoing those masks and being YOU 100%.
Just like any business, your acting career requires investment. If you were starting a bakery or a garage, you’d find a way to gather the necessary funds, whether through loans, extra jobs, or help from friends. The same applies to your acting career. You need to invest in yourself to make your business – your career – viable and successful.
Many actors come to us feeling desperate to reset themselves but lacking the funds. Those who succeed are the ones who find ways to gather the resources they need. Whether it’s taking on additional work, securing a loan, or asking friends for support, they find solutions because they are committed to their dream.
If acting truly matters to you, if it’s your passion and purpose, you must invest in yourself. This investment allows you to be fully alive and authentic in your work. When you show up as your true self – without the masks of trying to look good or be confident – casting directors, directors and the audience will notice.
