Are you still trying to be perfect? You already are!

You are perfect. Yes, you are.

I meet a lot of actors who are struggling with believing that they are “imperfect” and society is telling them they need to embrace that... as another step toward being as perfect as possible.

Do you see how that could create a problem? ;)

So, many actors get stuck in an endless cycle of trying to “improve” to be closer to perfection, but because we are - we are told - “imperfect” beings, we will never reach that perfection. There will always be one more skill you can learn, one more way you can try to look more appealing, etc.

It's very frustrating, especially when all the acting classes, approaches and therapy you may have done encourages you to accept your imperfections.

And whatever you are trying is probably not working, right?

Today, I want to turn this idea on its head. I’ve put together a video training to help you understand that imperfection is a made-up concept, and you are already a perfect being.

Before we begin, I'd like to share an exciting opportunity coming up for any of you struggling with your headshots. If you have felt uncomfortable or powerless during your headshot sessions and you are ready to actually have fun during your sessions to get impactful shots that get you in the room, then:

Now, here is a quick recap of what we covered in the training:

  1. We are born as gold. You built your own body from two little cells in the womb; how amazing is that on its own?

Then there is a bunch of $hit thrown on your gold by other people - all the SHOULDS your parents, teachers, society tell you that you need. All that weighing on you is what makes you THINK you're not perfect already.

For example: "I feel sad, and I want to cry. But I shouldn't cry. And everyone tells me to stop when I do." When you want to do something, instinctively, and you have all these other voices telling you to do the opposite, it makes you feel like there is something wrong with you and what you feel, and you need to fix it. And until you do the work of getting rid of other people's crap, you won't have access to your gold.

  1. Recognize that animals for example don't spend their time thinking about what they should be doing or who they should be. They just are.

A cat doesn't spend its time thinking, "Oh, I should really be a squirrel..." :) Our eco system works because all the animals have a specific uniqueness and purpose and together, it all functions, perfectly.

The same is true for humans. You are here to experience YOU, and to let others around you experience it in the vicinity of your being. We're all the same and all different from one another, and we're all perfect just as we are. Together, the whole system works.

  1. It's not about being "good enough". There is no such thing as "good enough". Are you human enough? The answer is always yes. Whatever you feel, just like your character does, is going to be human enough, and therefore, it's perfect.

Now, enjoy the video training!

So, it is really a step further than just learning to sit with your imperfections or to let them go. It is about knowing that there are no imperfections. How does this make you feel? Do you still have questions?
