This Is How Your Mindset In An Audition Affects Your Bookings.

When you get an audition, you may think that it is too big for you, that you have a lot of text to learn or that the character is not your type so you won’t be believable in that role. You might also feel tired of auditioning a lot and not booking any roles, considering the significant time and energy you invest in each attempt.

You may feel like you have to cancel everything to fully focus on your audition. Or, you may view it as a great opportunity that can change everything in your life if you do it “right,” so you feel the need to work really hard.

Inevitably, when you do that, you show up with a lot of stress or excitement. A lot of your energy is spent worrying about the outcome of your performance, about pleasing the casting director, and about trying to book the role. This mindset is problematic in terms of your job description as an actor. It is not about how good or bad you feel about your audition. That is connected to your ego.

When you watch my training below you will discover that when you are stuck in your ego, you are no longer present. There is no room for your character. Actually, the casting director is not going to experience YOU when you’re in your ego. When you act in order to sell, to do it “well,” or to be liked, you bypass the creative act. You’re no longer in character.

Instead, your job as an actor is to give up yourself for the character, to surrender to it and devote yourself to its needs. The creative act happens in the void of creation, where nothing else exists, but your presence. Creation comes from nothing.

Therefore, it is really about making sure that your instrument has been taken care of so you feel completely present, free, and instinctive. It is about not knowing what’s going to happen next. You need to be able to show up with whatever is going on at the moment, without repressing any of your feelings and sensations.

You are a channel for the character to exist. Therefore, you need to allocate your energy to defend your character’s needs.

Watch my training below to hear all my thoughts on this topic.
