Do you struggle to learn your lines?

Is the text the first thing you tackle with a new project?

When I start working with actors, it’s usually their first concern when they have an important audition coming up or book a big project. They say it’s a HUGE headache for them, and either they’re not good with text or they struggle with it a lot. Comments like:

It's difficult to learn, it requires so much hard work.

I'm afraid I will forget them once I'm in the audition room.

The lines don’t really make sense.

I feel free when I prepare, but as soon as I say the lines, it's all gone.

If I don't know my lines, I've failed!

When you're worrying about your lines, you can't be present in the moment and, therefore, alive and in character. So, I want to help you get to the bottom of why you are experiencing so much resistance...

And what you can do about it.

When you watch my free training, you will learn...

  1. It's all about context. You walk in thinking you HAVE to learn your lines and know them by heart, creating an obligation for yourself. You HAVE to do it. And as soon as you're obligated, you revert back to being a child with homework to finish, and you're going to be judged or scolded. All of that definitely does not give you access to freedom. It gives you yucky feelings and a fear of failure. Nothing about that is artistic.

  2. You didn't get into acting to learn lines. That's so boring... But you're making it the top priority. Nothing else in your instrument can function except your brain, consumed with getting it to sound " perfect or right". This is a big reason why you struggle and lose your freedom when you're learning your lines.

  3. "Text" doesn't exist. The character you're pouring your soul into is a human being who wants something, and they're using words to get it. When you remember and concentrate on this, there is no longer text you need to learn.

  4. I challenge you to put this into practice. It will involve listening and engaging your instinct in a much more playful way than just regurgitating lines.

  5. Nothing that I am saying is a fix or solution. Your freedom and power is, and always will be, in your hands. I am simply inviting you to look at your struggles from a different angle or perspective, because everything you need to be alive and instinctive is already inside of you.
